ECPAT UK is committed to safeguarding and protecting all children, young people and adults at risk and we take this responsibility very seriously. We adhere to this safeguarding and child protection policy and all staff and volunteers abide by a code of conduct that puts safeguarding at the heart of all we do because everyone has a right to be and feel safe regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

Children, young people and adults at risk have a right to protection from abuse and neglect, to provision of care and support services to help them thrive and to participation in all matters affecting them.  Safeguarding is both an organisational and individual responsibility. Everyone has a responsibility for safeguarding, to promote the welfare of all children and young people and adults at risk, to keep them safe and to behave in a way that protects and promotes their rights.  We all have a duty of care to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to ensure the safety of a child or young person or vulnerable adult involved in any activity or interaction for which we are responsible.

We respect everyone’s individuality and understand that needs and experiences are unique and that many face additional adversity and challenges as a result of structural inequality and discrimination including racism, classism, sexism, ableism and LGBTQ+-phobia.
