ECPAT UK What the professionals knowIn September 2000, ECPAT groups from Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and the UK began research into the trafficking of children from Eastern Europe to their respective countries. What the Professionals Know: The trafficking of children in, and through, the UK for sexual purposes was the UK's first piece of research into child trafficking. Its aim was to build an evidence base child trafficking, as past research on trafficking had primarily centred the trafficking of women. The project was developed by the ECPAT European Law Enforcement Group, and coordinated by Defence for Children International, the Netherlands Section. The project was largely funded by the STOP Programme of the European Commission and the Oak Foundation.
