What we do Children's champions Nominate your Children's Champion for 2020! Each year, ECPAT UK recognises someone who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to trafficked children with our Children’s Champion award. Our previous winners have included lawyers, campaigners, advocates, guardians, local authority staff and many more dedicated to trafficked children’s rights. We’re pleased to now open this year’s public nominations for our Children’s Champion for 2020!This year, we're encouraging members of the public to nominate the individuals who have gone above and beyond for trafficked children. Each nominee will be scored against their demonstrations of the three key characteristics outlined below: Child centredness, Kindness and Advocacy. The winner will be selected in December by our panel of young people affected by trafficking, staff members and trustees. About the Children’s Champion award Our Children’s Champion is selected based on their unique attributes, achievements and contributions to child victims of trafficking.In particular, we are looking for those who demonstrate the following characteristics that are central to ECPAT UK’s values:• Child centredness – by this we mean behaviours and environments which respect children and young people as active agents in their own lives with rights to be and feel protected, to be provided for and to actively participate in all matters affecting them• Kindness – by this we mean actions, behaviour and communication that is devoid of judgement and actively shows an understanding of the impact of trauma, abuse and other life experiences• Advocacy – by this we mean standing up with and for children and young people in the face of adverse and hostile systems and decision makers to ensure that they are heard, respected and supportedWe're calling for nominations of anyone who works with or for children and young people affected by trafficking, including (but not limited to):• Foster carers• Residential staff• Support workers• Social workers• Independent Child Trafficking Guardians• Lawyers• Campaigners• Community organisers• Fundraisers How to enter Anyone can nominate an individual for our Children’s Champion 2020 award.
