Following our successful training programme in 2016-17, ECPAT UK is once again partnering with the Refugee Council to deliver training to over 1,000 foster carers and support workers in England.

With support from The Department for Education, ECPAT UK and the Refugee Council are offering face to face training for foster carers and support workers to improve care for trafficked and unaccompanied children. The Caring for separated and trafficked children training programme is designed to equip those with caring duties for children with the knowledge and tools to effectively protect children from going missing from care – a significant risk to children and an indicator that exploitation may be taking place.

60 free, interactive training courses will be delivered to foster carers and accommodation support workers. Each course will provide vital, practical knowledge that will enable these professionals to respond to children’s needs and help keep them safe from exploitation.

Laura Durán, Senior Policy, Research and Practice Officer at ECPAT UK, says

‘We’re delighted to be partnering with the Refugee Council again to deliver this important training. Foster carers and accommodation support workers have one of the most important roles in caring for children, and it is vital that they receive training to understand and mitigate the risks these children face in their care.

‘This training course offers a range of practical tools that foster carers and accommodation support workers can use to support children going through various processes. It will also help carers to understand what children may be experiencing, which can enhance communication and create a happier home environment.’

Places are available on the course from January – March 2019. Visit the Refugee Council’s website to book onto a course via your local authority.
