ECPAT UK and Row for Freedom meet David Cameron
Staff from ECPAT UK and the Row for Freedom team - six women who are rowing across the Atlantic to raise awareness of human trafficking - met the Prime Minister, David Cameron, at a reception to celebrate Anti-Slavery Day 2011.
On 19 October, the PM met leading NGOs and policymakers to discuss the UK response to human trafficking, the day after ECPAT UK launched its Watch over me report, which urges the UK Government to introduce a system of guardianship for child victims of trafficking.
The Row for Freedom team, which includes ECPAT UK Youth Programme Coordinator Debbie Beadle, had a private meeting with Mr Cameron, in which he enquired about the team's world record hopes and why the challenge was so important in raising awareness of trafficking and promoting a system of guardianship for child victims.
Mr Cameron even invited the team to return to Number 10 once they have completed the 3,000-mile epic journey, which takes place in December.
Also attending the reception was a member of the ECPAT UK Youth Group, who spoke with the Immigration Minister, Damian Green, about the difficulties that child victims of trafficking face in the UK and explained to him why a system of guardianship would benefit young people and children in similar situations.
